Pink Dresses
Before I went to sleep, the air had that clean rain smell I love so much.
Leonard and I are walking along a highway trying to get to a house. He has written a book and he wants to show it to the man who lives there. He wants to cut across their lawn but I’m trying not to let him. Even though it will be a shorter trip, I don’t want to upset the man. He frightens me. Somehow we are in his house. He is reading the beginning of Leonard’s book. Suddenly there is snow everywhere. The man says Leonard could write a better book, and please stay until the snow lets up. I’m still afraid of the man.
The next dream takes starts in Usdan. Orchestra 4 is very large. There are many violas, including Meci, Manasa, Heidi, Catherine Kao, and Mike Smith from school. Mr. Hodges is holding a vote for the person who will be head of each section. I’m sure Meci or I’ll get the job for the viola section, but the girls all voted for a cute guy with spikey hair that’s been bleached. By the way the bleached hair looks, you know it used to be red. I’m annoyed. An old woman comes down to greet us once the class is over. I ask her where Ms. Whitmore is. The old woman says Ms. Whitmore isn’t the viola teacher anymore. She is. The old woman reminds me of Mrs. Hendricks inna dress. I’m very scared. I go up to the viola hut, and I’m trying to put my shoulder rest on my instrument. That’s when I realize that the neck of the viola has shattered. I don’t care so much about the instrument as much as what my mother will do to me when I get home.
Now I’m at home. Dan called to ask me to come to Leonard’s house for a band practise. I remind him I’m not allowed, but he says I can go, because we’re going to work out a viola part for Denile. And he tells me to wear a dress. And that Kerning will be there. I find a dress and put it on. I like the way the dress looks, but it’s violently pink. I don’t want to wear it, but I don’t want to upset Dan. Dan calls again telling me to come over soon, that Kerning’s already there. For whatever reason my house has sliding doors like in Japan. I say okay and hang up. I forgot to ask him if I really have to wear a dress or not. I’m too terrified of Leonard’s parents to call back. I’m digging through my drawer trying to decide what to wear.
That’s all.
